Karel is considered one of the Czech Republic's finest documentary photographers. His black and white work goes beyond description to essence. His work (notably on Ukraine, Israel, and the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Czech territory) is inspired by the best humanist documentary traditions, centered on social, political, and philosophical contexts.
