Romania

by Bill Crandall

Romania is perhaps best known for the capital Bucharest or for the mythic central terrain of Transylvania. But it was the sleepy Banat region, the pancake-flat western expanse close to the Hungarian border, where a revolution was born that would bring down the dictator Ceaucescu.

This series - part of a larger ten-year project looking at post-communist Eastern Europe - is an impressionistic look at a little known area, with its particular mix of light and shadow, tension and tranquility.
