Obama Inauguration

by Michael Bonfigli

On January 17th President Obama traveled by train, following the tracks of Lincoln to his inauguration in Washington DC three days later. Residents outside of Baltimore braved the cold for hours just for a chance to see the soon-to-be president and vice president to pass by. The train slowed for about 20 seconds and moved on.

In Washington the cold weather, tight security and massive crowds threatened to dampen the spirit of Obama’s supporters. But nearly two million people made it to the inauguration and the city’s Metro system reported the most ridership ever in a single day. As Obama made his way to the podium, emotions rose and people hugged, cried, laughed and shouted for joy.
