Czech Theatre
by Karel Cudlin
Karel Cudlin was the third photographer commissioned to document a season’s activity at the Czech Republic’s National Theatre. Unlike his predecessors Bohdan Holomicek and Viktor Kronbauer, however, this was Cudlin’s first experience photographing theatre. His body of work (notably Ukraine, Israel, and the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Czech territory) is inspired by the best humanist documentary traditions, centered on social phenomena and social, political, and philosophical (or universally human) contexts.
Narodni Divadlo (National Theatre), Season 2004-5, was published as a book and presented as a major exhibition in Prague.
