lebanon-burning: by Michael Robinson Chavez Qana, Lebanon 2006. Israelis pounded the town of Qana in the early morning hours on Sunday killing 57, including 37 children who were taking shelter in a house on the edge of the battered village in southern Lebanon. Qana was also the site of a massacre of civilians at a UN base that was blown up by Israelis in 1996. UN and Lebanese workers spent the day digging through the rubble in an effort to find all the bodies. A dead 1 year-old baby, a pacifier still in place, is taken from the rubble of the building.
