Nusrat Bej with Aman (15), Aminullah (6) and Sohar (9). That day Nusrat Bej only found food for two of the children: “The commander gave me half a cup of wheat for Aminullah and half a cup for Sohar Gul. I didn’t find anything for Aman Gul. Her stomach is aching all day long”, she said. Nusrat Bej was desperate. “Months ago, two of my sons ran away during the night without saying anything. I had failed to find them food for days at the time. I have asked the commander if we can leave this village. The commander did not give his permission; he says the Taliban will capture us as soon as we cross the frontline”.
